This is a new area of my website that I am putting together that is dedicated to the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes model kits from the early 70's.

There were a number of kits re-issued from this series and many that were never re-issued. I have managed to obtain the re-issues of the dinosaurs that Monogram and Revell came out with in the 80's and 90's and a few of the original Aurora kits of the 70's from this series.

Here is what I've collected up to this point. I have a few missing parts from 2 kits but very minor and small accessories. None of these are built yet...

When Monogram and Revell re-issued the dinosaurs, they did NOT re-issue some of the base parts. Allosaurus did not include any of the 2 part base, Ankylosaurus was missing 1 part of the 2 part base and the SailBack Dimetron was missing 1 part of the 2 part base. Aurora had produced a second version in 1972 of The Saber Tooth Tiger and added a second piece to the base which wasn't available with the first version of the kit. After 1972, this kit was never re-issued.

What a mess for the Aurora collectors to try and recover these from original kits...until now.

There is a company that makes the base pieces that were NOT re-issued from Monogram or Revell. This company is called . I was now able to get the bases to make the dinosaur bases interlock like the originals. These were sculpted from the original molds so they look exactly like the Aurora originals. The only one that is not yet re-produced is the Woolly Mammoth 3 part base. My sources tell me that this is currently being worked on by Borealis. :)

What would Allosaurus be without a base to stand on, right?

I have spent some time in deciding where I would display the kits as I build them and where to showcase "The Prehistoric Scene". Being that the T-Rex is 18 inches tall and 30 inches long, I needed to build a shelf long enough and with enough head room for him. It also needed to be wide enough for 17 kits. As I start to get some of the kits assembled and painted, I'll post some pics of my Prehistoric Scenes kits and shelf display and you can watch its progress.
