Bob's Make It & Take It ~ 2002

We started off the program by showing a short 15 minute video of Basic Modeling ~ A Beginner's Guide To Building and Painting Great Looking Scale Model Kits by Video Workbench

I had decided that because of the age group and gender differences, I needed to find kits that would work.

Polar Lights had the "perfect" kit! It was a "snap together" kit that would appeal to all ages and genders as well. This kit was called The Jetsons.

I also had provided "glue" kits for those who felt a need for a more challenged approach. I used the Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis plane kit by Testors. These kits came with paints and decals and the glue and sprue cutters were provided by me.

After watching the video, we went out to the backyard where I had tables set-up and gave them a few instructions and set the kids up with their kits.

Here are a few shots of the kids during the event...

Even a few of the mothers got in on the act...

And here are some of the finished kits and some smiling faces...

This took only 2 hours and afterwards I served pizza and soda for everyone.

The kids really had a blast and were eager to build more model kits.

I had a table set-up with some build-ups of kits that were built by some of the kids that were there including one of my kits (LIS-Robot) as well. (One of the kids had his King Kong kit built but not painted yet)

Observances were if you can get the parents to support this and join in with their kids....the event has even more meaning.  It certainly is a great opportunity for the kids to introduce them to something else besides watching a video or playing a video game. And the best part... it's alot of FUN!
